The Laser Cutter is an extremely versatile machine which allows users to cut, mark and engrave a variety of materilas such as wood, plastics, cardboard and fabric. Using Adobe Illustrator, you will learn how to use the laser cutter to create complex designs and projects with the touch of a button.
This Safety and Basic Functions Course (SBFC) provides instruction on how to safely handle and operate the universal laser cutters. As part of the course, participants will make a mobile holder out of wood.
This course is a MakerSpace Safety and Basic Functions Course (SBFC), and is a prerequisite for members who wish to operate this machine(s).
Machine: Laser Cutter 2 [VLS6.60]
Course Duration: 2 Hours
Minimum Age: 12 Years
Supervision requirements: During class, all 12- to 18-year-old students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also enrolled in the class.
When using the laser cutter after taking the class, 12- to 16-year-old members must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian who has passed the SBU. Members 16-18 years old must have a letter of authorization from their parents in order to use the laser cutters.
Prerequisites: None, however, familiarity with a vector-graphics program like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw is beneficial.
Safety requirements: Closed shoes must be worn at all times in Makerspace, and is a requirement for entry.
