Explore the basics for your project
This hackathon crash course gives you hands-on access to three essential MakerSpace tools in a single, compact session: the laser cutter, 3D printing, and the electronics workbench (soldering irons, AC/DC power supply, multimeter, etc.).
Please note:
This course covers practical machine operation only. It does not include instruction in the associated software (Inkscape, PrusaSlicer®) or the underlying theory (circuit design, electricity basics, CAD). If your hackathon project depends on these, make sure to prepare that groundwork yourself before the course — we'll focus entirely on getting your hands on the machines.
What you can do after the crash course:
- Operate the laser cutter safely to cut and engrave your prepared designs
- Operate the 3D printers (Prusa® MK4 and Prusa® Mini) to print your prepared models in PLA, PETG, or TPU
- Use the electronics workbench safely to solder components and assemble basic circuits
- Combine all three tools to bring your hackathon prototype to life quickly
This crash course is designed to get hackathon participants fabrication-ready fast — it is not a substitute for the full individual safety and basic function courses (SBFC) required for independent, ongoing use of the laser cutter, 3D printers, or electronics lab in MakerSpace.
